Plaza Low Yat gets nod from Malaysia Book of Records

PLAZA Low Yat, a name synonymous with the Information Technology (IT) world was recognised recently as Malaysia’s Largest IT Lifestyle Mall by the Malaysia Book of Records at a ceremony held in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia.

According to the area general manager Patrick Honan, the mall has positioned itself in the minds of the people as the first and the best place to buy digital items.

In accordance to that status, the mall has also joined in the Tourism Malaysia’s Mega Sale to help support KL’s image as a shopping haven.

During the event, Plaza Low Yat also launched their own website.

Honan said their mall was always been featured in other websites.

Congratulations: Honan (second from right) receiving the recognition founder of the Malaysian Book of Records Datuk Danny Ooi while Zulkifli (third from left) and Plaza Low Yat executive manager Chris Ang looks on.

“However, it is time we joined in and physically control the content on the internet and work with our own retailers,” he said.

The mall attracts 28,000 shoppers per week with over 500 retailers and brands of IT, clothing and eateries in the building.

The event was launched by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall deputy director-general Zulkifli Ibrahim who represented mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail.

In Fuad’s speech read out by Zulkifli, he said the mall would contribute positively to the government’s vision to make Malaysia an IT literate society.

“With the launch of the website, it will bridge the gap between shoppers and retailers.

“The returns will be handsome for both the mall and shoppers,” Fuad said.

  1. Low Yat gets a smart directory
    ————————————-

KUALA LUMPUR: The next time you walk into Low Yat Plaza, take a closer look at the floor directory that usually displays the lists of businesses on each floor.

You’ll find it’s not the usual static display but a digital directory complete with multimedia and a touch-driven interactive interface.

The Low Yat Digital Directory, as it’s called, is part of the shopping centre’s effort to offer an experience as high-tech as some of the products sold by its tenants.

The Digital Directory, which is essentially a two-screen interactive display showing advertisements in one and the digital directory proper in the other, is the result of an alliance between Chrome Media Sdn Bhd (which supplies the hardware and software) and Plaza Low Yat.

Being a completely interactive experience, the Digital Directory is freed from the normal static display and allows the user to tap and flick through the listings based on products and brands, view videos and even get short write-ups on various topics, courtesy of HWM Malaysia, the official magazine for Low Yat Plaza.

There are eight units of these Digital Directories, one on each floor, each coupled with a display serving advertisements, according to John Chang, Chrome Media director.
