Misuse of Charge Card
I got this issue on Misuse of Charge Card from a blog reader.
Can anybody help her by providing your comment below?
Dear Alan,
My husband’s cousin-A,who is a Singaporean, seeked for his help to provide his charge card (Diners) details as a security purpose for her stay at a 5 star hotel here in Malaysia. My husband at first was reluctant, but due to sympathy, he helped her.
The hotel fax to my husband a letter of authorization stating that my husband agrees to secure her stay at the hotel.
He filled up the form, stating his charge card details, and also a photocopy of his charge card; and faxed it to the said hotel.
Clearly my husband has mentioned to the hotel not to charge the card only used it for security purpose, however, after 3 weeks, they have charge his card without his knowledge and his cousin-A signed the receipt on behalf of my husband.
When my husband received his charge card statement, he found out the hotel has charged 3 transaction amounting to RM 10,000.
My husband confronted the hotel mgt and they claimed that A instructed them to charge on my husband’s card.
Now,the charge card is suspended, and Diners demands full settlement. My husband refused to pay and his cousin-A has failed to make any payment on the stay to my husband or Diners.
I need your opinion on how should i resolve this matter.
Police report or any other agency body that I can refer to take an action against the hotel for their negligence and also his cousin-A for their fraud. It seems that A has been doing this to others-staying at hotels using other ppl’s credit card.Since they are foreigners, maybe there are ways to lodge a complaint and alert other hotels on their scam.
Thank you.
Ms.X
This a reply from Charles:
Dear Alan,
I could not leave message in your latest posting but do advice your reader that he can show proof to Diners that he specifically instructed the hotel not to charge.
This is a very good reason to dispute. I was a hotelier for many years..cheers
