Malaysia Is A Nation of Foreign Workers
If you go out almost everywhere, you will notice so many foreign workers. You can see them in restaurant, mamak stall, Petrol station, Night Market(pasar malam) , shopping centre, etc.
Even if you take a walk to Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin and Lebuh Pudu(the most popular shopping destination for foreign workers in town), Kuala Lumpur, you won’t notice it’s in Malaysia.
It’s more like a foreign-worker haven.
Almost all the signage and advertisements in foreign wording and the shops were run by foreign workers. Even Celcom put their advertisement using their national flag pictures.
No doubt, Malaysia’s economy depend a lot on these foreign workers. They also contribute a lot to business like telecommunication, remittance, mini markets, sundry shops, public transport etc.
However, I feel the Government need to more tighten the policy when dealing with foreign workers.
Unlike Singapore, Malaysia encourage a lot of unskilled foreigners.
I think the number of unskilled foreigners has grow tremendously over the year! The official number of foreign workers is 2.3 million BUT many of them have smuggled in their spouses and children. Therefore, the number of foreign workers in Malaysia can be shocking and mind-boggling.
There are even a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) setup in Sabah to look into problem of unskilled foreigners obtaining fast-tracked citizenship.
Don’t be surprise your favourite Char Kuey Teow dish was cooked by foreign workers.
Do take a visit to KLCC’s Food Court etc to find out.
Even all the major shopping center i.e The Curve, Mid Valley, 1 Utama etc, hired foreigners as a security guard.
If you lost your way at the shopping center and ask for direction, you’ll must NOT be surprises that the security guard cannot speak and understand any English word!
